Shirley Bomhoff, MSN, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
Shirley is an expert performance improvement leader, author and speaker, dedicated to advancing safety, quality, efficiency and organizational learning in complex clinical and non-clinical environments. She is passionate about building a culture of Coopetition, where both competition and cooperation exist at the same time, are strategically deployed, and transform the entire organization into one of accountability and continuous improvement.
She has a particular expertise in patient safety initiatives, infection prevention, patient and associate experience, and the use of statistical process control to guide decision-making. By integrating the positive deviant approach, change management principles, and human factors considerations into her performance improvement practice, exemplary outcomes and sustainment have been achieved. Through mentorship, teaching, facilitation and storytelling, Shirley supports individuals, groups and organizations to incorporate continuous improvement thinking into all aspects of life and work.

Julie Irvine is a Healthcare Operations and Performance Improvement leader and critical care nurse with 30 years of experience driving hospital operations and advancing strategic initiatives to improve quality outcomes. She is passionate about fostering a culture of continuous improvement and is recognized for providing expert training, mentorship, and leadership in performance excellence. Julie specializes in transforming organizational culture to strengthen patient safety, enhance compliance, and ensure accreditation readiness. Her work aligns clinical operations with evidence-based practices to reduce risk, eliminate inefficiencies, and lower costs, delivering sustainable results in complex healthcare environments while promoting accountability and operational excellence.

Talijah Daring, MBA, RN-BC, CPHQ
Talijah Daring, MBA, RN, CPHQ, is the Director of Quality & Safety at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, where she oversees quality, patient safety, regulatory, and risk management programs. With more than 18 years of healthcare experience, she is a dedicated quality and patient safety leader focused on improving outcomes, enhancing patient experiences, and driving organizational excellence.
Throughout her career, Talijah has held a variety of clinical and leadership roles across the healthcare continuum. She is passionate about advancing quality through process improvement, standardization, operational effectiveness, and patient-centered care. In her current role, she leads initiatives that strengthen quality performance, promote a culture of safety, and support continuous improvement across the organization.
Talijah holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), reflecting her commitment to excellence in healthcare leadership and quality improvement. She is also an active member of the healthcare quality community and is dedicated to advancing the profession through collaboration, mentorship, and service.
Outside of work, Talijah enjoys marathon running, hiking, cycling, traveling, and spending time with her energetic dog.

Kristen Geissler, MS, MBA, PT, CPHQ, Managing Director
Kristen Geissler is a Managing Director in BRG's Healthcare practice where she provides quality and performance improvement advisory services to health systems. She has thirty years of experience in healthcare in direct patient care, administrative, and consulting roles, with a focus in quality measurement, improvement and accountability, and clinical documentation, case mix analytics, and outcomes. She also has expertise in value-based payment methodologies, risk adjustment methodologies, and risk stratification of patients. Her work has included evaluation and design of quality programs, measure prioritization, and improvement methodology. Before her consulting career, Ms. Geissler was the Director of Quality Improvement for a hospital in Maryland, and she is also a licensed physical therapist.

Catherine (Kate) Clark, CPC, CRCE, CRIP
Kate has worked in healthcare for over thirty years. She combines her energy for problem-solving and coaching with her experience in operations and revenue integrity across the gamut of multi-specialty healthcare professionals. Her teams have worked in volume coding as well as compliance auditing, electronic health record optimization, clinical documentation improvement (CDI) efforts, and denials management support.
She is a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), a Certified Revenue Cycle Executive (CRCE), and a Certified Revenue Integrity Professional (CRIP).

Michael Dexter, MA, RRT, CAP, CSSBB
Michael Dexter, MA, RRT, CAP, CSSBB, is the Manager of Clinical Quality Improvement at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he manages teams supporting The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, OB/GYN, the Heart and Vascular Institute, Transplant, and Oncology programs, as well as system-level External Rankings initiatives across Pediatrics, Adult, and Maternity (U.S. News & World Report and American Hospital Association).
Michael leads complex, interdepartmental quality and safety portfolios focused on improving outcomes, reducing risk, strengthening regulatory readiness, and advancing organizational performance. His work centers on aligning frontline improvement efforts with enterprise priorities, external benchmarks, and strategic objectives to drive measurable and sustainable impact.
With more than two decades of progressive healthcare leadership experience, Michael's background spans bedside clinical care, health information systems, and enterprise quality improvement. He is recognized for building high-performing teams, developing leaders, and translating data, methodology, and strategy into operational results.
Michael joined Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2020 after holding quality leadership roles at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and operational and systems leadership roles within Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. He holds a Master of Arts in Management and Leadership and a Bachelor of Science in Community and Public Health Administration and served as a Malcolm Baldrige National Board Examiner, focusing on organizational strategy and performance excellence.
In his free time, Michael enjoys being outdoors, staying active, spending time with his family, and watching collegiate and professional basketball.

Renee' Grubbs
Renee' Grubbs serves as a Performance Improvement Manager, bringing over 20 years of practice across diverse clinical settings, including nursing leadership. She is board-certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and holds wound care certification from the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB).
Renee' is recognized for her clinical expertise in the identification and management of pressure injuries, including advancing equitable assessment practices for darker skin tones. She is committed to continuous quality improvement, fostering psychologically safe environments for team engagement, and driving initiatives that promote fairness, equity, and high-quality patient care.

Veronica Natale, MPH, CPHQ
Veronica Natale is a Senior Quality Improvement Team Leader at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she leads and supports initiatives to advance patient safety, healthcare quality, and operational improvement. In this role, she partners with clinical and administrative leaders to align improvement strategies with organizational priorities, evaluate care quality concerns, support professional practice evaluation processes, and guide teams in identifying, implementing, and sustaining evidence-based improvement strategies.
Veronica is recognized for her expertise in quality improvement, patient safety, and healthcare delivery systems, with authored publications and regional and national presentations. She serves as the Atlantic Coast Regional Champion for Solutions for Patient Safety, faculty for the TeamSTEPPS program at the Armstrong Institute, and a graduate teaching assistant at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She also serves as a Member at Large on the Maryland Association for Healthcare Quality Board of Directors.
Veronica holds certifications in Lean Six Sigma for Healthcare, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality, and Human Factors and Ergonomics. She is also a Master TeamSTEPPS Trainer and an Armstrong Institute Patient Safety and Quality Leadership Academy Scholar. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Kinesiology from The University of Texas at Austin and her Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Public Health degree at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Outside of work and school, Veronica enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time outdoors with her fiancé and their two dogs, Lucy and Odin.

Barbara Peace, MBA, MPH, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, CPHQ
Barbara Peace, MBA, MPH, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, CPHQ, is Vice President and Chief Quality and Safety Officer at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC), where she provides executive leadership for Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, Infection Prevention, and Simulation across the organization's two hospital campuses. She is a nurse leader with extensive experience leading clinical transformation, advancing patient safety, and improving healthcare quality and outcomes.
Prior to joining UMMC, Barbara held leadership roles in quality, patient safety, accreditation, and nursing quality at both a community hospital and a freestanding children's hospital. She began her nursing career as a pediatric intensive care nurse and ECMO specialist, experiences that continue to shape her commitment to improving care for patients and families.
Before pursuing a career in nursing, Barbara conducted epidemiologic research in Northern Tanzania focused on the distribution of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) and HPV vaccine efficacy. She has also been actively involved with the American Heart Association, serving on the Executive Leadership Team and as Chair-elect of the Go Red for Women campaign in Tarrant County, Texas, where she was recognized as the 2021 Woman of Impact.
Barbara is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice at the University of Maryland School of Nursing and is committed to service, mentorship, and developing future healthcare leaders through education.
